LIACS Research Seminar

The mission of the LIACS Research Seminar is to be the primary forum for the exchange of ideas between PhD students, both in the initial formation of the ideas and in sharing new discoveries. Occasionally, guest researchers and LIACS members will also give overviews and introductory talks of current research directions. LIACS researchers are also encouraged to attend to see the newest research occurring at our institute.

Content-wise, a large variety of talks are possible. Speakers may
- present their research in general terms
- present an open problem they have encountered during their research
- present ideas for new research topics on which they would like to work
- present finished work (similarly to the This Week's Discoveries seminar)

Talks should be aimed at a relatively broad audience: the typical person in the audience will have some background in informatics, but not necessarily in the particular field of the speaker. By nature, some talks will provoke discussion or solicit feedback. To stimulate such discussions, the organizers intend to provide some free drinks and snacks in the Foobar after the seminar.

The seminar is held twice a month, on Thursday, 16:00-16:45 in room 174. Each session consists of two consecutive 20' talks (15 minutes for the talk and 5 minutes for discussion).

All PhD-students are strongly encouraged to attend.
