Current Projects & Activities

• Working at the Division of Image Processing ( LKEB, Labratorium voor Klinische en Experimentele Beeldverwerking) of the Leiden University Medical Center on multi-agent systems and evolutionary computation for medical image processing. I'm working on a project called NWO-Savage (Self-Adaptive Vision Agents using Genetic Evolution) together with Rui Li and Michael Emmerich from the LIACS.
• I am a developer for Evolving Objects (EO). Which aims to be a common library for all evolutionary computation paradigms known to mankind.

Finished Projects & Activities

• Supervising the Master Thesis project of Eric Hogewoning : Strategies for Affect-Controlled Action-Selection in Soar-RL.
• I finished my PhD Thesis titled "Data Mining using Genetic Programming: Classification and Symbolic Regression" in Februari 2005. I defended my thesis on September 14, 2005.
• Organizing the LIACS PhD Talks together with Joost Broekens
• I finished my Master Thesis titled "Rule-extraction and Learning in the BP-SOM Architecture" in August 1998. A summary as well as the Thesis itself can be found here .
• Before I became a PhD student I wrote a small java applet illustrating the Monty Hall Problem to future students. At the moment there is only a dutch version . A preliminary english version is available as well.
• I wrote a small Wumpus World Environment Simulator in C++ for the Artificial Intelligence Practical Course. One of the students has created a Java version.
