The International Asterix Bookshop

picture First of all, this is an old page. Most of my Asterix pages have moved to Hans Selles' site www.asterix-obelix.nl, which has its own bookshop. I keep this page for my own reference, but do not expect to find regular updates.

This page contains hyper-links to shops that sell the comic Asterix by Goscinny and Uderzo; in particular shops with a browsable catalogue and mail order service. Consider this page an answer to a single Frequently Asked Question: "where can buy the XXX edition of Asterix the Gaul?" (Usually it's me who has this question)

Part of `the many languages of Asterix', a presentation of all (?) translations of Asterix, with cover pictures and lists of titles that have appeared all over the world.

Disclaimer: We make no claims at all. This is not an advertissement, but intended as a service. Of course, the International Asterix Bookshop does not exist: the companies below have no relation except being on this list. Please, for your own benefit, compare the costs the companies ask for postage & packaging. Feel free to choose...

Foreign Language Book Sources at Books and Book Collecting.

UK

Blackwell (UK)
The Internet Book Shop (now W.H. Smith) (UK)
English Asterix, German, French, and Spanish translations. Search gives 2743 items including 'Art & Practice of Astral Projection' :)
Taigh na Teud (Scotland)
Scottish Gaelic Asterix. No Asterix anymore.
North Americas
Note: When I was visiting the USA, I succeeded in buying Asterix at large bookstores, in the children's department. It may be hard to find them in the super-hero type of comic shop.
Amazon books (US)
Good source for the English Asterix series.
Schoenhof's foreign books (US)
If you have a few dollars to spend, this is a place to start quite a foreign language collection. The catalogue offers French, Spanish, German, Mundart, Latin, Portuguese, Hebrew, Italian, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Danish, and Turkish. (And even more languages if you collect TinTin.)
Just For Kids (US)
Asterix is suitable for children from 9-12 years. Where does this leave me?
Barnes and Noble (US)
English/American, Latin, Spanish, French, and German in the catalogue. Nice start. However, foreign titles carry 'new copy not available at this time'.
Planet BD (CA)
Not only books, but also merchandise: watches, t-shirts, Lost link.
The Beguiling (CA)
Quote: "North America's finest comix bookstore. Located in Toronto, Canada". Sells Asterix. Could NOT find Asterix anymore...
Europe, outside UK
KNO and K&V (DE)
The German KNO and K&V catalogue contains Asterix in many languages, we have seen German, Mundart (german dialects), English, French, Latin, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish. (Unfortunately the Russian title seems to be unavailable now.) These can be ordered from a large number of German bookshops. If you live outside Germany (like me) choose one that will do mail orders abroad.
Proxis (BE)
Fantask (DK)
Danish Asterix.
Messageries du Livre (LU)
Did we see German, English, Spanish, Luxemburgian, French, Portuguese, Mundart, Alsatian, Latin, Italian, Spanish Asterix in this catalogue? (4.99: perhaps they should update their catalogue. Where are the recent Mundarts?)
Hans Huber AG (CH)
Bernese German Asterix. Not cheap these Swiss. (Link to Asterix lost - it seems Hans Huber no longer serves as bookshop)
Le Furet du Nord. Oops. Shop moved to www.lalibrairie.com (FR)
French naturellement. The other languages disappeared from the list, except , Corsican, and Breton, but I wonder whether these really have appeared with Hachette!?
Turkish
Pandora Bookstore sells Turkish Asteriks. Publisher Remzi has a web-page, in Turkish, and accepts mail orders.
Esperanto
The Flandra Esperanto-Ligo has Asteriks in its catalogue. However, their pages are in Esperanto or Dutch.
A more complete overview of ways to order Asteriks can be found at the Asteriks page in Esperanto.
