I am a doctorate student at LIACS (Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Sciences), Leiden University, The Netherlands. The research that I am doing is in the area of software engineering and particularly related to software quality estimation.
I completed master degree in ICT in Business at Leiden University in 2006 and subsequently continued with my present doctorate research in the same university.

@@''CALL FOR CONTRIBUTION: UML DATA & DEFECT DATA''@@
''Background''
Models are becoming increasingly important in software development. Current developments include model-driven development and model-based testing. Not only are models becoming the fundamental artifacts in these areas, but they are also playing important roles in quality assurance. At present, the UML (Unified Modeling Language) has become the de facto standard of software modeling in the industry.
''The Research We Are Doing''
The UML allows different styles of modeling. For example, the level of detail and the degree of rigor applied in models may differ from project to project depending on the purpose of the models and the problems at hand. We are researching the costs and benefits of UML modeling when different degrees of rigor are practiced in modeling. To this end, we have developed a tool called [[MetricView | http://www.win.tue.nl/empanada/metricview]]. This tool can detect and visualize defects in UML models. We are developing this tool for assessing the quality of models at all stages of development, but especially during the (early) design phase.
To investigate the cost/benefits of modeling we are interested in the effects of modeling on the quality of the ultimate system. One way to determine the quality is by looking at the defects found during testing and operation of the system. We have applied this approach to more than 10+ large industrial systems and we have seen promising results that indicate the usefulness of assessing the quality of UML models.
We are looking for industrial projects that allow us to improve and validate our approach for model-based quality assurance.
''Call for Contribution''
Currently an important question is to find out how the quality of modeling affects the number of defects found in downstream development (testing and deployment). Therefore we are interested in the UML models and defect data of projects. Should your organization has projects developed with the UML and maintain defect record throughout development, we kindly invite your contribution and participation in this research.
''Benefits''
Benefits from using the technique in ongoing projects are early defect prevention, and more effective software testing. If you provide us with a UML model for a past or ongoing project, we will perform an analysis on it using our techniques. This analysis can also be performed at your site. You will get a report from our assessment. This report highlights potentially troublesome parts of the models (‘smells’ and weak spots of the model in terms of consistency and completeness). Typically we can complete such an analysis in a couple of days. We are working towards integrating these techniques in a version control systems, such that they can be applied automatically each time a model is checked in.
Using a different tool, we can also analyze the correspondence between the UML design and the source code (using metrics). Such an analysis identifies critical deviations between the design and the code.
We look forward to hearing from you!

My main research activities are mainly related, but not limited to the following areas.
''Software Fault Prediction''
The ability to predict the quality of a software system long before deployment is desirable for many reasons such as enabling early fixes to potential defects. To this aim, I have been investigating early metrics that can be used to predict the quality of software. At the end, this research will result in an accurate and robust software fault prediction model that can be used to identify defects in software based on early metrics.

''Quality Assurance in Modeling''
With the advance of model-driven software development the role of models have been increasingly crucial. Not only are models useful as a communication medium between software designers and developers, but model are also vital for generating a working code. Thus the quality of models is now more important than ever before. Research in this area focuses in investigating methods and techniques to monitor, control, and improve the quality of software models.

Ph.D. Researcher at Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS)
In the Finesse project we are investigating the quality of software and exploring the predictability of software quality. The ability to predict the quality of software products is very beneficial for projects because this allows software engineers to monitor, control, and improve the quality of software long before deployment. This obviously reduces project risks and costs associated with rework.
To that aim, the main focus of our research has been in the area of quality assurance in modeling. The main objective is to explore measurements/assessments of model quality in software development process. We have been collaborating with industrial partners such as LogicaCMG and Oce’ to gather industrial data from which some evidence might be revealed. Furthermore, we are in close contact with other research project ([[Empanada | http://www.win.tue.nl/empanada]]) of the Technische Unversiteit Eindhoven, which has similar line of research.
Therefore, students who are interested to do research projects in the direction described above are offered a broad range of topics, which include, but not limited to the following:
• Investigation into the correspondence between software design and the implementation. This includes developing matching algorithms.
• Visualization of defect distributions in software systems.
• Investigation into the quality of software models, which include the construction of techniques and tools for quality assessments of models.
In these projects you might be assigned to work in a company that use model-driven development approach in their software process.
