International Students
Computer Science in Leiden
The Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS), part of Leiden University, is situated in the same building as the Department of Mathematics; both are part of the Faculty of Science, also including Physics, Astronomy, Life Science and Technology, Chemistry, Pharmacy and Biology. The building is located in the northwestern part of Leiden.
The Computer Science Department received students for the first time in 1981. The total number of students is approximately 300. The program complies with the new Bachelor/Master (BaMa) structure. The first year is the so-called propedeuse. Knowledge of the Dutch language is obligatory for the bachelor program.
After the three-year bachelor it is possible to extend your study with a two-year master program. Master students have several options:
The courses of the master program are given in English, and a student is required to have proof of a sufficiently high TOEFL score (a language proficiency test).
After the master program a student has the option to join the PhD program within one of our research groups. Currently there are approximately 20 graduate student (AIO’s) participating in the PhD. A professor heads each research group.
